The End of Summer
There is a frost warning tonight. And although I love my garden and I worship summer, I am throwing in the beach towel. My gardening friends are scrambling right now to cling to their last bits of summer like pumpkin tendrils on chicken wire. Me? You could say I’ve “mulled” it over. I’m thinking about Poetry Friday and sweet stuff. Ready or not, here comes autumn. Bring on the cider.
Today’s Poetry Friday round-up is hosted by Laura S. at Author Amok. Thank you, Laura!
Great imagery, Liana! I really like “cocoon the cabbages” and the toddlers.
I have also mulled it over and decided there will be no end to summer this year. I am too much enjoying working outside with my legs in the sun. 🙂
Thanks, Renee! I’m not sure my legs even remember the sun. Summer was very fleeting here in northern New York this year.
I’m with you, Liana. Bring on fall. Every crunchy leaf I see makes me happy.
Thanks to your poem, I do believe that I am ready for the magic of Fall, after all.
Love it. Love the poem and the introduction. I’m clinging to the morning glories.
Can’t blame you there, Liz. If only they could continue to bloom through the winter. Our winters here are so. very. white. 🙁
I’m with you, Liana. Poor tomatoes, pumpkins, and cabbages… oh well. Seems North Floridians are always babying their plants. Maybe it’s the New Yorker in me, but I’m pretty cutthroat when it comes to gardening. My view is if it can’t make it through the winter, it will be replaced with something more hardy next season. Though I don’t expect any frost warnings for at least a couple more months or so!
I know what you mean. I’ve considered making cold frames and babying my plants, but around the time I would need them, I’m busy with the back-to-school routines, so I just don’t have the time.
WOW! It is hard to believe that you have a frost warning, we’re still fighting 100 degree terperatures.
Lovely poem.
Thank you, Joy! 100 degrees? Can’t even imagine that right now! Enjoy your season, whatever it may be. There’s beauty in them all.
I love cool weather and I have been saving caramel apple dessert recipes of every variation! I’m ready for fall. Although, to be honest, it’s a bit of a relief that it will be at least a month before we get frost warnings. Like Renee, I like the round-faced toddlers and cocooned cabbages.
Thanks, Tabatha!
Ooo, yes. I too am thinking of crisp apples and yummy pies. The tastes of fall.
Hi there Liana, this made me smile today. I love apple pie a la mode. The imagery of caramel apples and pumpkin pie is enough to make my mouth water. Fall. Autumn people. Brings Bradbury to mind.
Autumn already? It’s supposed to be 96 degrees next week! And I’m way up in Michigan.
96? Oh my!!!! I’ve been longing for 70 for a while. 🙂 Have fun in Michigan!
I love this poem! i’m ready for fall, too. I’ve been daydreaming about the apple orchard and looking at pumpkin recipes on Pinterest. I always miss summer but am glad that we have fall where I live with it’s colors and crisp cool air…and all the yummy foods. 🙂
Thank you Jen! Autumn is beautiful here, too. Can’t wait for the colors to reveal themselves.
Lovely poem, Liana. I’m glad you decided not to tuck your garden children in. I’m ready for Fall too, but here in Florida, that just means hot days and slightly cooler nights.
Bring on the crisp fall weather and the hot apple cider! I’m ready, too!
